STI's and the media

This picture is a good picture that is pretty accurate as far as describing a couple of the symptomes for syphilis. I think this picture uses more of a funny approach to the topic instead of the usual message of fear. I think this is target age group is late teens to mid twenties based on the type of picture it is. I think it is an effective way to reach the audience because its easy to understand, appealing, and informative. I think pictures like this one that are published in the media play an important part in public awareness without all the boring lecture and facts that are usually tossed at us.

  1. This is a great ad for syphilis. It is funny but this type of comedy I really like it. It is subtle in a way and creative. Good accurate information is given in way that isn't dull. This type of awerness might not get everyone because this could be seen offensive by some people. I do think in a college town or the age group that syphilis hits the hardest the ad will be the most effective.

Fear is not used in this ad which is good to see because in the first reading we did this term it was explained that it hasn't worked. This type of awareness I think will be the most effective in preventing STI's.

  2. This is a great ad. Not only is is very simple to understand, but it is to the point. I think that humorous ads in general are a good way to not only educate the public by talking about health topics that honestly more indoviduls need to be aware of but are stigmatized in many ways as well as a way to show the seriuosness of the HIV or STI and ways to prevent and cure the virus and help decrease the infection rates.

  3. This ad is simple yet effective at explaining an important early stage of syphilis. The media has tried numerous ways to convey messages to young adults and I think that cartoons or comics are a good way to do it. By doing so they make the reader or viewer comfortable so they can be more receptive to the information displayed in them. Although most of the time they don't have much information in them, they at least carry with them enough information to keep young adults safe.

  4. Clever ad! Comedy is probably one of the most effective ways of communicating information like this, particularly to younger people. I like the literal interpretation of "sores followed by a rash." A lot of people will remember that sort of visual cue.

  5. I agree, this is a great ad. It reminds me a lot of the Simpsons! It seems like this would be a really effective ad because it gets your attention and uses humor. It describes symptoms of syphilis and also provides information on testing.
